After several pleasant meetings with the Alderman of Culture and city-marketing, the city archaeologist and two policy officers of the city of Gouda, Gouda has decided to sponsor the Dutch Cemetery of 1595 (The De Houtman expedition) project with an initial amount of € 6,000.-
The fleet of four ships were under the command of the merchant Cornelis de Houtman who was born in the city of Gouda. So, from historical perspective, the expedition to Madagascar is very interesting for Gouda.
